Cardiff is internationally recognised as being among the very top tier of Britain's research-intensive universities and is a member of the Russell Group of leading universities. We seek out new knowledge and understanding, and work to ensure that it is applied for the wider benefit of society in collaboration with our numerous partners, including local companies and multi-national corporations; government and international agencies and numerous other bodies world-wide. We have been extremely successful in winning external grants and contracts for research, and are also committed to converting the outcomes of research into commercially viable products and processes.
Research, Innovation and Enterprise Services actively support this activity through Technology Transfer, which includes: identifying and developing opportunities; protecting and managing Cardiff’s IP; collaboration and licensing agreements which make available new products and processes to companies; and the establishment of joint ventures and new spin-out companies. Cardiff University’s key shareholding in Fusion IP, the Alternative Investment Market listed university IP commercialisation company, adds a significant string to Cardiff’s ability to spin-out businesses that can capitalise on the outcomes of its world class research.
Furthermore the University’s Business Development Team recognises the benefits of industry interaction, particularly the value of the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) which facilitate the transfer of recently qualified graduates to industrial partners. Cardiff University is heavily committed to the KTP Programme, with 22 KTP partnerships currently active across the institution.
Cardiff University Innovation Network
Cardiff University Innovation Network is the University’s primary outreach to local business. Created in 1996 it continues to develop relationships between academia and business; sharing knowledge; driving collaboration and enhancing impact from excellent research conducted at Cardiff.
